TAP TALK + VIDEOSCREENING
Tuesday, 22nd July | 21:00
Location: Escola Luthier de Música i Danza | Carrer de Balmes, 53, Baixos
It’s well known that tap and jazz have their roots in African rhythms and traditions. But do we really know anything beyond that?
In this Tap Talk, we’ll dive deep into the region of Casamance, in the south of Senegal—a region that has preserved its traditions, music, and dance despite the influence of external cultures that have tried to establish themselves there.
Our aim is to explore the impact that these more authentic traditions may have had on the later development of what we now call tap dance.
The talk will include video material on the Diola (Jola) culture of Casamance, and our main speaker will be Nazaire Sambou, who will share with us firsthand the dances and rhythms of his native community.
Presented by Nazaire Sambou & Gisela Noguero.
Video projection of Tap Master Leon Collins
